15's Team competing beyond their years...
To some up the season, we finally played like we wanted to win last power league, and the result was: we did! I refer to my team as the "practice all-stars". They look really strong in most practices, but at tournaments who knew what time we would showup. If we were to scrimmage the 16's or even 17's in practice, I had no worries because i knew they would play great, it was practice. I think early in the year the kids and the parents were frustrated because we weren't winning. It was a new game for them, every team could pass andserve. The truth is there is a huge difference between 14's and 16's. Probably the biggest difference at any level. I have no doubt that my team was a great 14's team, they have excellent ball control and can serve teams off the court. Those two components are no longer enough to win atthe 16's level. We now needed side out and put away free balls. The girls have worked very hard on their hitting, and it shows. From our two big middles to our back row attack, they are now able to hit aggressively and limit mistakes at the same time. We still don't have the biggest outsides, but they have worked on being smarter hitters. I really hope they can continue to make these strides over the next few months. If they can, theywill be a threat to every team we play.
