For the first time in a while we started a tournament strong. Our first opponent was Cowlitz Blue from Longview, WA. They were a solid team that made you work for every point. We controlled the first game winning 25-16. In the second game we fell short 20-25, In the 3rd game we held on to win 15-10. We were matched up against Tillamook 14's in our second match of the day. Game one was close, but we pulled it off 25-23. We cruised in game two winning fairly easily 25-18. In the final match of the pool play we played NW Jrs. Power. Just one week ago we suffered a tough loss to them in pool play losing 15-13 in game 3. If we win we go 3-0 in pool play. If we lose we tie for 1st but they would win the pool as they would win head to head. Our girls would have nothing to do with that. All three games in the match were very close. Each team building leads of 1 or 2 before the other team crept back to tie the game. The first game was close, but NW Jrs. managed to make a little run at the end beating us 25-20. The second game went back and forth and we were able to build a small lead and were ahead 24-21 before NW Jrs. fought back to tie it at 24. The 25th point was won by us after a very long rally that featured a ping pong match at the net with the ball finally landing on their side of the net. We won 26-24. In game 3 our confidence was up and we were in control from start to finish winning 15-5.
Winning our pool at regionals was an amazing accomplishment for these girls. All three teams we defeated were primarily 8th grade teams. In bracket play we were matched up against Eagle VBC. This team had some strong hitters and would give us a good match. In game one we fell behind early and dropped the game 20-25. In game two we played much better and won convincingly 25-13. If we could just keep that momentum going in game three. We were tied at 4 and then gave up 8 points in a row and could not dig ourselves out losing 7-15. Our final game of the day was against Oregon Junior Volleyball Academy. Even though we found ourselves behind 17-24 the girls kept on fighting and pulled to within 1 point before losing 23-25. We almost pulled that one out.
Congrats on another great showing. You should be very proud of what you have accomplished this year.
