The girls came out and played two great matches saturday. This assured us
a spot in the top twenty, but we still had to play the number one seed in
the 16 club division for our last pool play game. I dont know if it was
being in the pm pool or what but we came out very flat and had to work
really hard to beat a team that was not that strong. With three wins the
first day we felt really good going into day two. The first play of day
two courtney passed a perfect pass up to lexi. Lexi jump set a one and
becca came in and hammered it. I remember sitting down after that play and
just watching for a while with a smile on my face. Not only were we
winning, but the girls were doing things that we had just gone over in
practice. Our right side jordan, was setting ones when the setter was out,
our back row players were setting bad passes out to the outside hitters,
and our middles continued to stuff girls straight down. They also made
small adjustments during the game, with very little instruction needed.
Sunday we played Rose city in the quarter finals. Like all weekend, the
girls were aggressive, keeping Rose City on defense the whole game. Rose
city did an amazing job touching every ball, but we continued to attack
until we finally got a kill.
In the finals we just couldn't get things going. Our passing and serving
started to fail us for the first time in 9 matches. That, combined with
some strong hitting from KJVBC, put us on the defense and we just couldn't
ever really put the presure on KJ. The girls did a great job of playing
volleyball the way it should be played and it was a real bummer to leave
the tournament with our only loss of the weekend.
We ended up 2nd in 16 club gold. With an 8 and 1 record.
