THE COURTS, BEAVERTON - Great team play and serving throughout the entire day allowed us to improve our ranking from #11 to #8 and move into the Gold Division by finishing second in our bracket.
Our day started off a little disappointing when we lost our first game to #15 Salem 12 Black 24-26, but we came back strong in the second game to win 25-16. Game three was a little too close for comfort, but we pulled out a 15-13 win. Sonja had great serving in our first game. In the second game, Rachel got us going with her serving and Emiko put the game away with eleven straight serves (many of them aces). In the third game we trailed 6-8, before pulling out the win. Our second match was against #14 Canby 12 Blue. We fell behind 11-3 in the first game before Jaime got us going with her serving, followed by Anna with twelve straight serves. We outscored Canby 22-5 the rest of the way to win game one 25-16. In game number two, with the match tied 10-10, Anjola ran off six serves followed by Emiko with another four to finish off Canby 25-17. Emma played great defense in this match. Our last morning match was against #10 Roseburg. This was one of our best matches of the year. We served great and played great team ball with lots of talking and strong defense. We won the first game 25-11. In game two, Anjola had one of her best hits of the season. Once again, Emiko served well scoring eight straight points. We ended pool play with the #1 seed and an undefeated record.
Our first match in the afternoon championship bracket was against #12 Team Yakima 12 Gold. This match was for a place in the Gold Bracket and we took the match seriously. We came out strong in the first game with Brittany getting a couple of key serves and beat Yakima 25-13. Game #2 was a little closer. Anjola, Alison, and Rachel all had big hits during the game. While the match got a little too close for comfort, we pulled out a 25-22 win and secured our place in the Gold Division. Every player scored a point on their serve during this match and everyone contributed to a strong defensive effort.
In the bracket championship match, we ran up against #10 Roseburg again. They came to play, but we ran out of gas after a long day. We fell behind early in both games and lost 25-17 and 25-13.
Overall, we finished the day with a 4-1 record and moved up from #11 to #8 in the rankings. Throughout the day, Alison played big with some great passes and hits from the back row. Bailee once again had a strong day setting the ball. Kudos goes out to Callie who played all day with a thumb she broke the night before. What a tough kid. It's the Gold Division for us in the next Power League. Great Job Girls!
