The 16's black team competed at Estacada on Sunday in a friendship tourney. The team didn't lose a set the entire day. Mt. Hood Athletic Club gave us a run for our money in the semi-finals but some steady play when the match was on the line gave us the advantage and we prevailed 25-19, 25-22.
Some excellent serving by Kiana Miller and Anna Chizum helped us gain some momentum when the score was tight. Sydney Wilson had a great day for us, passed very well and had some great digs to keep us in rallies. In the finals Cowlitz gave it their all in the first set and we seemed a little shaken but we settled down to get the win 25-23,25-15. It was great to see Morgan Schwab get a great kill off of a one on game point. Cierra Warren, our 5'2" DS played some left side for us when we were short handed and did an amazing job on the outside. She was fun to watch. Kasey Toedtmeier played smart and consistent the entire day and served up 3 straight aces in the first match against Cowlitz. Makayla Michener also had a strong day for us with some great serving and hitting in the finals. As always, it's fun to watch Shelby Vasconcellos-Mattocks, Anna Chizum, Hailey Schiller and Hannah Stultz connect. They work very well together. This team is coachable, works amazingly hard, gets along and has a lot of fun. As coaches we couldn't ask for more.
