It was another good tournament for #8 NCVBC's 12's Black team. For the second week in a row, the team finished with just one loss and a second place finish in the tournament. Also for the second week in a row, our team finished the morning pool play undefeated.
We took care of business in our first match against #24 Willamette Valley VBC 25-14 and 25-13. We had fourteen aces in the first game with Bailee and Emiko leading the way. In the second game we had good hits by Brittany and Anjola followed by nine straight service points by Callie. Our second match was against #36 MAC Red. We one game one 25-15 with strong serving from Sonja, Rachel, and Emiko. In the second game, Sonja served ten straight followed by five from Jaime. Rachel had a big hit as we finished the game with 16 aces and 29 aces over the two game match. The final match in morning pool play was against #9 Blues Power. The first game was a little close, but we pulled out a 25-21 victory. Bailee's twelve straight serves was the key to winning the game. We took control of the second game and won 25-11 behind strong hitting from Rachel and serving from Callie. We finished the morning with the number one seed in our pool.
In the afternoon single elimination championship bracket, we opened with an easy victory over #39 PDX Raspberry 25-7, 25-5. We were led by extremely strong serving from Emiko, Jaime, and Bailee. In the semi-finals, we faced #20 ABC Apollo. This was a very tight match. We lost the first game 24-26 though Allison showed some very strong serving. Game two was just as close, but we pulled out a 25-23 victory to send it to a third game. We cruised in the third game with overall strong team play to win 15-4. In the finals we faced #12 Oregon NW Air Elite. We led the first game 15-4 before giving up 15 straight service points. We tried to recover, but lost 21-25. The highlight of the game was huge kill by Anjola. In the second game we fell behind 4-19 before mounting a comeback to pull within 17-21. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and lost 20-25.
Overall, it was a great day of volleyball. Over the past two weekends we've tallied a 9-2 record and are playing well. It's just a matter of time before we win one of these tournaments. Next weekend is our first chance to move up our ranking in the Gold Division. Great job girls!
