Our first match of the day was against Crook County 15 Black and the girls came onto the floor ready and confident. They continued to keep the ball alive by great passing and solid defense. Our offense made smart choices and played tough at the net to get us our first win 25-19.
The second game our serving continued to be strong....which led the defense and offense do their jobs and we took our second win 25-19 again.
The second match of the day was against Willamette Valley 16 Silver. The girls confidence was up and it really showed. Our serving was really "on" during this match. We served positions successfully and kept the momentum on our side for the entire match and took the first game 25-5 by completely serving the team off the floor. We also added a few fancy offensive plays for fun and that was fun to watch. The second game we were able to run more of an offense and really work on reading the hitter and getting the ball where it needs to be so we have more than one option for our hitters. This game we pretty much had it under control the entire game and winning 25-15.
So now we are playing the #1 seed in our pool and this game is for 1st or 2nd. We are playing against Webfoot 16s Gold. The first game the girls made some great plays, 100% effort by all and tough net play by our middles. We lost the first game though 15-25 but it was close than the scores shows. NOW the second game.....that is a different story....we came out fighting for every point doing anything and everything that it takes to compete with a #12 16s seed!!! This game was SOOO much fun to watch and is by far the best game of the 14s Black season to date. We made some INCREDIBLE saves, one pancake that SHOULD NOT have come up and somehow it did and we won the point!!! One amazing dig after another, aggressive offense that would not quit. The girls really put the pressure on those 16 year old's they had to fight for EVERY point, nothing was just given to them. It came down to the end and with a long rally we lost 23-25. What a complete team effort this was.
So we finished second in our pool and we are now in the Championship Bracket. We end up playing Nafanua 16 Elite and the girls came out and again showed the 16s that we can compete at your level and we are not going to give up. Again, the girls really dug in and made every point count. We lost both games but again, Nafanua had to earn most of their points and it wasn't an easy walk through like some had heard it should be.
I am very proud of my team. They showed so much growth today just by walking on the court and NOT being intimidated by the team on the other side. They could have easily freaked out and not play to their level. But they didn't. THAT is was makes a good team a GREAT team. Not one game were they EVER blown out...very impressive. The level of play that these girls took their individual game and team game is so very exciting and shows them that 14s Gold Division is TOTALLY 100% in their grasp!!!
What a day!!!
P.S. Our last Power league we were able to win the games that we needed to and we moved up one more seed and so now we are #13 in the Silver Division.
