Congrats to NCVBC 16's Black team which finished in the Gold at regionals this past weekend. Each player contributed to the success of the team as we worked together and played great in each match on Saturday.
The team peaked at the perfect time to enable us to reach a season long goal of making it into gold. Saturday proved to be our best day of play. We came out strong against PVC, the #1 seed in the morning but still lost in two. In our 2nd match of the day we played our best all season and beat a tough Alpine team in two straight sets. There was no doubt when our 3rd match of the day began who would end up on top. We continued our strong play and beat Mid-Valley for the 4th time this season. After pool play was completed we actually ended in a 3 way tie for 1st but lost in a one game playoff to Alpine. It was disappointing but the team rebounded to win the crossover and defeated Excel to earn a spot in the Gold playoffs. Needless to say we were EXCITED!!
Day two was tough. We lost to PVC in the first match of the day in 2 straight sets. The team started strong but lost confidence as the match progressed. PVC won in two. Our 2nd match of the day was against Northwest Jr's top team and once again we started strong but lost momentum and confidence as the match progressed. We lost in two but no one could take away the fact that this group of 3 sophomores and 7 freshmen finished in the top 8 of regionals. It was a pretty impressive way to finish the CEVA season. I'm excited to see what we can do at Reno and Emerald City!
