16's Black Place 9th out of 147 teams at Far Westerns

The 16's black team traveled to Reno over the weekend to compete in the 16's club division of the Far Western tournament.  The team entered the tourney as the #17 seed overall.

On day 1 we went undefeated in pool play, winning each of the three matches in straight sets.  It was great to see the team put into practice some of the things we have worked on all year.  Communication was great and serve receive was outstanding all tourney long.  On Day 2 we faced some tougher teams and actually lost our 1st match of the tourney to a tough NCVC 16-2 team.  We played well but were unable to overcome some tough hitting by our opponent. Having lost our 17 seed we played a crossover match against a familiar opponent, Webfoot Silver.  We have had several close matches against this team all year but in this match there was no doubt who would come out on top.  Our team dominated the entire match and finished the day by taking the #13 seed into bracket play on Sunday.

On day 3 the team played NorCal Black's 16-1 team who was seeded #4 in the tourney.  We came out flat and lost set 1 badly but rebounded quickly to take set 2.  Set 3 was a seesaw battle and we were actually up 14-12 but couldn't close out the game and lost 16-18.  It was a disappointing loss but it couldn't take away from the great time we had competing and taking part in this tournament.

Once again, as in regionals, everyone stepped up their play.  This team is playing solid ball in each position and everyone is finding a way to contribute to our success.  I would like to point out Makayla Michener for her great improvement in the course of this season.  She has really made a difference for us offensively and defensively.  Keep it up Makayla!
