CLACKAMAS - SUNRISE MIDDLE SCHOOL After a long season of second and third place tournament finishes, we finally pulled out a tournament championship in dramatic fashion.
In our first match in morning pool play, we faced OJVA 12's Blue. We played very well and won easily 25-10, 25-14. Our second match was against a well-coached and disciplined Rimrock 12's team. This was a team that had played well all season, winning several tournaments. We came out ready to play in the first game and won 25-19. Rimrock put up a fight in the second game, but we pulled out a 25-23 victory. We ended pool play against Mt. Hood 12's. They played their best ball of the day against us and we had to work really hard for the victory. We won game one 25-18 and game two 25-19. We ended pool play as the number one seed with a 3-0 record.
In the afternoon championship bracket, we faced #17 ABC Apollo 12's Purple. This was a tight match throughout. We won the first game 25-18. After some hot serving by the Apollos, they pulled out a 25-20 win in the second game. With the match tied at one game apiece, we headed to the third game. No team took a lead of more than two points until the very end where we pulled out a 15-12 victory. In the championship match we faced #5 ranked West Valley Jrs. 12's, who beat Rimrock in the other semi-final. Two weeks earlier, West Valley beat us for the #5 ranking at regionals. We had to settle for #6. Today was a chance for a little redemption. We are two very evenly matched teams and today, both teams played exceptionally well. We had a little more confidence in game one, building a big lead before allowing West Valley back into the game. We held on for a 25-21 win in game #1. Game #2 was an epic battle. Bailee's serving started us off with a 9-0 lead, only to see West Valley come back with eight straight serves. After the 9-9 tie, no team took a lead of more than a couple of points. With the game tied at 23 all, the teams traded points until we pulled out a 29-27 victory!
This win was the perfect ending to a great season. As a team, we got better each week as we consistently battled the top teams in the region. It has been great fun watching you play this season, even though you give your parents heart attacks from time to time. The future of NCVBC's club program and the volleyball program at CHS is bright with your participation and play.
