The U12 Grey Team drove all the way to Eugene to play in everyone's first club tournament ever! The girls showed up ready to play. Little did they know what they were about to experience!
The Blue Boomers (Grey Team) came out in the morning to play their toughest match of the day against CCJV 12 Black. With smiles on their faces and butterflies in their stomachs, the girls learned about substitutions, Liberos and much more, all while trying to play the game of volleyball. We lost, but improved in each of the 3 games in that match.
Coach Amy decided to get tough and made all but 4 of them serve underhand in the next 2 matches. Amazing results proceeded with points flying on the scoreboard. Scores like 23-25 kept the coach and parents on the edges of their seats.
During the last match of the day, we won our first game. Hurray! The second game was back and forth all the way up to 22-22. What happened next, I am sure we all have experienced...... official time out to fix the score. All of a sudden we are behind 19-22 and wound up losing the game. Lessons learned: how to play well and move forward with your game when things go wrong and the importance of your own refereeing duties.
Thank you to Kate and Shanaya for being willing to try something new and take on the role of Libero (and doing a great job at it). High five to Shae Lien who really, really wanted to serve overhand, but listened to her coach and had a serving run of 9 in-a-row. Applause for Katie's new-found overhand serving skills (guess she just needed a good reason to put the ball over the net). Fist pump to Kate and Vanessa for their perseverance and endurance at the scoring table. Positive Attitude Award to Lexee for always having a smile on her face and being so willing to help out during the game or reffing duties. Thumbs up to Natalie and Gabby for their consistent play throughout the day and emerging leadership skills on the court. Raise your hands in the air for the net-grazing, bullet-speed serves coming from Kyla. Once mastered, these will earn a lot of points for NCVBC.
The Blue Boomers had a great first tourney which brought new goals and a new outlook for the upcoming power leagues. I just can't wait to see what they will accomplish next time!
