The 18's black team competed in Eugene at the MLK tourney this past weekend.
It was a three day tourney with some of the best competition the northwest has to offer. Day one saw us take on Columbia Juniors, Washington Volleyball Academy and 253 Elite.. It wasn't our best day of play but we finished with our best results posting a 2 and 1 record. However, the team finished 3rd in pool due to tiebreaker criteria. We faced tougher competition the following day when we met Kent Juniors, Lake Tapps and North Pacific. The team played much more settled and consistent on this day. Our passing was better and our offense was better as a result. Our record, one win and two losses, didn't indicate our improvement in play. After taking third in pool play we were placed into bracket play in the silver division against a scrappy Oregon Volleyball Academy team. It was a great match, both teams played well but we lost in game 3 13-15.
This team has lot's of room for growth with two sophomores and 1 freshman which is exciting to see! They were a pleasure to coach with their hard work and great attitudes. I can't wait to see what 2012 has for this group of athletes!
