Even with Taylor sick, Hannah with 3 stitches in her eyelid, and Lauren and Sydney hitting heads going for a ball, our 18's Black team managed to win their pool and secure the number 5 position in the Gold division in Power League.

With big wins in pool play against Canby 18's and OJVA 17's, the girls started off 2-0.   Their final match of pool play was against Columbia Juniors 18's top team (ranked #4).   Even though the girls fought hard, they ended up losing 23-25, 23-25.  At this point they were tied for first in the pool with Columbia Juniors and OJVA 17s with 2-1 records.   They would need to win one set from each team to win the pool.  Taylor was so sick should could not play anymore.  But the girls came together and were up for the challenge.  In the first set against OJVA 17s they were down 8-4.  They could have folded, but they dug down deep and pulled out a victory.  In the second set against Columbia Juniors  they built an early lead and managed to hold on to a 15-13 win.   This earned them a 1st place finish in their pool and the number 4 seed overall.    Their first crossover was against a very tall Boss 18's team.  Our girls were not intimated and played an amazing match.  There were some  amazing rallies but they fell 23-25, 24-26.   It seemed like the girls were out of energy when they lost the first set in their last match against CCJV 18's losing 25-16.   But they kept fighting and dominated set two winning 25-16.   They controlled the final set as well winning 15-10 and earned a spot in the Gold Division for the next Power League.   What a great day for our 18's team!!!!
