The 13's Black took part in their second tournament of the season.  On Saturday, January 28th, the girls were at the "Old O.C. Gym" to play in the Trailsend Friendship Tournament. 

Pool play was impressive with the girls easily winning Nike NW 14's power team in the first round, Mt. Hood 14's red in the second round, and Trailsend (14's 1) in the third round.  Outstanding net play by Kaylee and Calla, great sets by Gabby,  and serving runs by Jaimie and Krystian (who served 17 straight!) were key to all three victories! 

In the afternoon bracket play the 13's black went right after Trailsend and won in two.  The second round was played against Boss.  The team struggled early but gained momentum and battled back to give themselves a chance to win.  Unfortunately, the girls were unable to overcome the early "deficit" and lost game one.  Game two started off much better with a six point lead against Boss.  NCVBC was not able to hold onto the lead and thus they lost game two and the match.  Although the girls struggled in this match, there were moments of excellence -- some great digging saves by Callie, passing by Brittany and consistent play by Olivia & Audrey -- were evidence that with a little more "focus" the 13's black is a great match-up for Boss!

13's Black will be playing  in the 2nd Power League on Sunday, January 5th!  This tournament will be eagerly awaited as it will provide an opportunity for the girls to once again prove that they are willing and able to play with the 14's, be competitive and continue to improve their standing!
