The NCVBC 14-1 Black team played at The Hoop in Salem for their first Power League Qualifier on Sunday, January 6th.  The first team they played in Pool Play was TEAM Hiki No.  The 14 Black team won the first set 26-24, but ended up losing the second and third sets 22-25, and 9-15.  The next game was against the Cowlitz 14-1 team.  14 Black ended up losing to Cowlitz 20-25 and 22-25. The last match in Pool Play was against NW Elite 14-1 Rox, the top ranked seed in all of the 14s' teams in CEVA.  The NCVBC team lost both sets to NW Elite 16-25 and 20-25.  Crossover play later in the day went a little better for the team.  In the first set against the NPJ 14-2 Black team, NCVBC was down 8-14, when Kalista put a 16 point service run together and brought the team back on top.  They ended up winning both sets, 25-16 and 25-18.  The last team they faced at the end of the very long day, was their first opponent from the morning - TEAM Hiki No.  Although the girls played well and got better as the day wore on, they lost to the Hiki No team again, 19-25 and 20-25.  The team was pre-seeded at 16, but fell to the 24th seed after this first Qualifier.  The second Power League Qualifier will be February 2nd and NCVBC 14-1 Black will face Wildcats 14-1 Red (40th), TEAM Hiki No 14-2 (42nd) and Cowlitz 14-2 Blue (26th).  Next up for the team is the MAC Juniors Friendship Tournament on January 19th.
